Life Facts: Joel Parkinson grew up in Sunshine Gold Coast, Queensland Australia. From his early fascination by the age of three standing and simulating a barrel ride on his Dad's board in his backyard, pro surfer Joel Parkinson learned how to surf. By the age of 13, he moved to coolangata performing his unique style with his world known mates, Mick Fanning and Dean Morrison. This little friendly competition allowed them to progress quickly and become the championship surfers they are today.
Successes: Joel Parkinson's became famous by being the youngest surfer (as a wildcard) to win the Billabong. Joel also won the Jeffrey's Bay ASP World Tour Event in 1999. Three years later in 2002, he won at home the Gold Coast Quiksilver Pro. In 2004, Joel Parkinson won successively the Boost Mobile Pro in Trestles California USA, and the Bells Beach Rip Curl Pro in Australia. His last victory was in 2006 for the Quiksilver Pro held in France.
Surfing Style: Pro Surfer Joel Parkinson has a regular stance. His surf is smooth with an extreme fluidity always having enough speed to throw moves at the right moment. Joel has had some insane, epic snaps and aerials. He's in between the new and old school as he is able to design awesome carves with more grace than a ballet dancer.
